Local Attractions
Caroleen Spur Depot, built around 1895, in Rutherford County. The station was on the route between Lattimore and Forest City at Henrietta Junction. A restored Civil War era boxcar with link and pin couplers is on display beside the depot also. Located at the intersection of Boss Moore Rd and 221 in Caroleen, NC.

Civil War Trails Stoneman's Raid
On March 25, 1865, Union Gen. George Stoneman led 6,000 cavalrymen from Tennessee into western North Carolina and southwestern Virginia to disrupt the Confederate supply lines, destroy mines and ironworks and to free prisoners at Salisbury. Stoneman's raid passed through Rutherford County and Green River Plantation. Website |
The Green River Plantation
Built in 1807, The Green River Plantation is a magnificent 42-room mansion. It is open for tours, as a Bed & Breakfast, weddings and events. All engagements are by reservation only. The Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail (OVNHT) The trail follows the Revolutionary War route of Patriot militia men from Virginia, today's eastern Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina to the battle of Kings Mountain, South Carolina, site of the Kings Mountain National Military Park. The OVNHT is part of the National Parks Trails System. While there are hiking segments, the primary public access is by car over the commemorative motor route. The trail marked portion in Rutherford County follows U.S. 64 west to Rutherfordton, one of only two towns through which the trail.

Cowpens National Battlefield
A pasturing area at the time of the battle, this Revolutionary War site commemorates the place where Daniel Morgan and his army turned the flanks of Banastre Tarleton's British army. This classic military tactic, known as a double envelopment, was one of only a few in history. Open 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., year round. Website |
